"This summer’s Uefa Women’s Euro will be game changing for women’s football in England, with the sport already on an upward trajectory" - Sue Campbell, Director of Women’s Football
According to the English Football Association, fans have already bought 500,000 tickets, charting the origin of the Euros. With the tournament being postponed last year due to COVID-19, UEFA is expecting the tournament to generate revenue of more than €60million!

EVOLUTION OF WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
For decades, Women’s Football has been placed behind its male counterparts with regards to media interest, funding and crowd turnout.
Gender stereotypes in football dates back to World War I, where many considered the perception of females playing football to be a ‘wholesome novelty’. Despite the increasing levels of encouragement from governing bodies to participate in sports, several complaints were filed expressing their opposition to the concept of women playing football. Consequently, in 1921, the Football Association declared that the Women’s team were no longer allowed to play on official grounds.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR FEMALE FOOTBALL PLAYERS?
The Sport gained a new respectability following the lifting of the ban. After several years of neglect by audiences and clubs, the sport has moved a long way.
This year, UEFA has stated that there was a significant increase in broadcast deals and high profile sponsors such as Adidas, Nike, and Heineken. With the BBC delivering 24/7 coverage of the Women’s 2022 Euros, more than 250 million people around the world are able to tune in through streaming platforms. Furthermore, UEFA has doubled the total prize fund for the tournament to €16 million.
