The 10th of July is definitely a day to commemorate in the sporting world.

The Women’s World Cup Final in 1999 between China and the US certainly had their 90,185 live supporters at the edge of their seats as both teams gave it their all. China, who had a clean sheet in both the quarter and the semi finals, were undeniably a very tough team. However, the US maintained their strong defense and the game continued to be scoreless even after extra time, needing to settle this tenacious match with a penalty shootout to decide the champions.

Tensions continued to grow as fans poured their hearts in support of their team. Players gave their best shots with both teams being neck and neck at 4-4. But with a tremendous save by USA goalie Carla Overbeck, all the pressure laid on USA forward Brandi Chastain to bring the trophy home.

Chastain ripped off her jersey and fell to her knees the moment the ball hit the right corner. The rest of the team raced to her, hugging one another as they celebrated their triumph. The celebration is now one of the most influential points of Women's football.
